Happy Birthday Joey!!!

This time of year there is always so much hustle and bustle, so much to do and see. Often times it is easy to forget the things that are important and get caught up in the stress of it all. One thing I have to be very grateful for during this season is the birth of my last baby, Joseph Christopher, born on December 9, 1999. I guess it's time to face up to the fact that I don't really have any babies anymore, as this year marks his 8th birthday. We celebrated it this year as we did last year, with a soccer tournament (which he won) followed by a birthday party with his friends and a magician. Dodders, Happy Birthday; I love you.

thanksgiving and stuff

this has been a busy week. it started off last saturday where we celebrated my 32nd birthday. i started drinking about 1 in the afternoon and was passed out about 11pm. lots of fun, thanks to everyone who came.

sunday was spent recovering.

monday, my actual birthday. joey was still a little sick so he stayed home from school we layed in bed most of the morning watching tv. about 4 we all left for downtown disney. i promised the kids that we could have my birthday dinner at the rain forest cafe. i thought if we went early enough we could have them save us a table for 10 at 6:30. i was surely mistaken. i got in line a 4:20 and by the time i got to the front i told host that i had a party of 10 and we would like a table at 6:30, he said unfortunetly i can't hold a table for you but if you want to eat at 6:30 you should come back at 6. i called all that were coming to tell them to be there by 6:30. will and christina backed out, will was too tired from the night before so it would just be 8 of us. Heather, the Kids, Kat, Shaun, my Mom and Me. we hung out at downtown disney for a bit and about 5:45 we walked back to the resturaunt. the line was HUGE, so i got in line. by the time i got to the front it was 6:15, no joke 30 minuted in line to ask for a table, it was the same guy that told me to come back at 6. thank God, i proceed to tell him that i am back but with a party of 8 instead of 10. he said, im sorry sir but its going to be 2 hours. i couldn't believe it i pleaded my case told him that he said to come back when i did to get a table for 6:30. he said if you have everyone in your party here right now i can sit you otherwise you are out of luck. and of course, i was out of luck. we went to a couple different places but everywhere at downtown disney was a minimum wait of 1.5 hours. we finally redirected everyone back to wood ranch after all the frustration we finally sat down and had a good dinner.

tuesday, vicky had a test so she went to school as the rest of us sleep in a bit and then start packing for vegas. this year, we are spending thanksgiving with heather's mom. heather's sisters family naomi, mike and their two kids were also coming out. after vicky took her test i went and picked her up as heather and the boys finished packing. we finally left about 12:45... traffic was HORRIBLE. we finally arrived around 7 and were exhuasted. (for my birthday my mom rented us a house in vegas so we had a place to bring the dog and a place to go back to so we weren't all so crowded at heather's moms) after we settled in cameron and i went searching for a food place. we found jack in the box. we all ate and went to bed.

wednesday, we slept in a bit laid around the house and then headed over to heather's mom. after visiting we all decided to go to excalibur to eat at the buffet. holly cow, buffet's are expensive when you have 5 people in your family. $89 for food that is somewhat ok and i know the kids will only eat one plate and then be full. oh well. joey actually loved the buffet which surprised the hell out of me. he must have went back 4 or 5 times!

thursday, thanksgiving! we went back to heather's moms about 11:45 where the house was already smelling of turkey goodness. while the girls cooked the kids, mike and i played soccer and with the dogs outside. we all finally sat down about 6 and had a fabulous dinner. we were all thankful that we were finally eating! after dinner and desert we all sat around talking, watching tv, napping. we finally said our goodbyes about 10 and went home.

friday, we got up did some last minute cleaning and then headed back to california. all in all it was pretty fun, very stressfull at times (traveling with three kids will do that to you).

saturday, just lounging around today with no plans. i took off monday as well so hopefully the next 2 days are relaxing with nothing to do. if the kids can calm down a bit we might take them to the movies.

Happy Birthday Cameron!!

Where oh where has my little time gone? Today my little mini me, the 2nd of my 3 (no longer) babies, turned 10. Double digits. The past 10 years with him have been so many things, amazing and humbling and full of excitement and frustration but through it all I am constantly awed at this boy who is the embodiment of me. He is so smart and quick witted and sarcastic and totally loving, and I am proud to be his mother.

For the party, we took him and some friends in a limo to the block and downtown disney to hang out. In the words of one of his friends: "Pizza and soda in a limo?? Best party EVER!"

Happy Birthday Bamma. I love you.

More precious than you
Girl you are

couple things i have changed:

added a navigation bar to the top of each page

the front page displays a random picture from ALL the galleries from the past 8 years, its pretty cool to go and hit refresh a couple of times. if you click the picture it will take you to a link of that entire gallery

the 'thoughts' page is now a mash up of heather and i's blog. before it just took you to links back to this page and heathers. now you can read in unison by date. eventually when the kids start writing more i will add theirs as well.

check it out and let me know what you think, many more changes to come so check back often to see my progress.

Happy Birthday Vicky!!

The memory is a funny thing. Certain occasions I can recall with such clarity that I could tell you the colors people were wearing. Others I may not even know who I shared them with, only that they occured. This day thirteen years ago my 16-year-old self began the day pacing the floor, throwing rubber balls at the wall to distract myself from the pain wrapping itself around my belly and snaking its way into my back. Fast forward about two hours: Me, in an ambulance, oxygen mask held over my face and a paramedic's hands pressed somewhere else and his anxious face inches from mine, saying "Don't breathe, don't push! DON'T PUSH!" Minutes after being rushed into the hospital, my tiny 5 pound, 10 ounce, 18.25 inch baby girl came into this world, and my life was forever altered. So for my now 13-year old, I love you. We grew together, we learned together, we survived and overcame, together. We're still on her time though, funny how that never changes. Being the mother of a teenager will no doubt have it's challeges; not the least of which are dealing with my age and the age she acts like she is. But it also affords me the chance to see this beautiful young woman emerge like a butterfly from the cocoon of her childhood, and to know that I gave this beautiful child life, and while I may not be World's Greatest anything, I have succeeded so far in raising her to an amazing 13. Happy Birthday Victoria!!

stuck in bed

there is nothing worse than having back pain. today i am stuck in bed cause i can't move. ever since i was a sophmore in high school i have had back pain off and on. i've tried everything vicodin, chiropractor, vicodin, chiropractor, regular doctor, more drugs, vicodin, soma, stretching, other drugs, chiropractor, etc. nothing really seems to work. usually the back pain is directly related to stress for me but right now i am not really under any stress, nothing out of the normal atleast and this pain is different then it usually is. this pain almost feels like i broke a rib, although i haven't had any contact with my ribs to break it. if i move wrong a pain shoots in every direction and i can't move, at all, like i have been hit by a freeze ray a very painful freeze ray. so today i lay in bed and the only thing i can do is watch tv and surf the internent. not that its a bad thing except for the pain. it hurts really bad. did i mention i was in pain? and heather took her nintendo ds with her so i can't play her new diddy kong racing :( man this really sux.

yesterday marked the end of the baseball season for the boys. for cameron now they gear up the playoffs. cameron's team was are the champs of double A. they begin their tournament next week to see if they can go all the way. cameron's team killed their opponents ending the game in the 5th inning. cameron played 3rd base stopping a ball and tagging a runner out and stopping him from scoring. it was an awesome game to watch.

joey played awesome as well. he got a hit everytime up and almost hit a homerun is last at bat. he made it all the way home where they tagged him out. it was very exciting. we took lots of pictures, you can check them out here. let me know what you think.

happy mothers day

today the kids and i woke up at 7:45 to make heather breakfast in bed. at first we were going to make pancakes but then one of us (prolly me) decided french toast sounded WAY better. so we got the ingredients out and each of the kids cracked an egg and i started cooking. afterwards we wrapped her presents and headed up to wake her up. heather wasn't quite ready to wake up so we left her food beside her and her presents at the foot of the bed. 20 minutes later she finally woke up and opened up her presents. the kids and i got her some face cream that she really wanted, diddy kong racing for ds, yoshi for ds and a kermit the frog stay green shirt. afterwards heather and i took a little nap until 11.

after we finally woke up heather took a nice relaxing bath and then we all got ready to have brunch over at uncle pat's house. we arrived and had a great time swimming and bar-b-que'ing and being with the family. i can't believe i forgot my mom's present at home :( sorry mom, i will send your present now. hope everyone had a great day.

i think my family would starve if it weren't for peanut butter(with the exception of vicky who lives off top ramen). this has got to be the greatest food ever invented. you can put it on bread, crackers, celery, banana's, bagel's, raisin bread and our favorite tortilla's! peanut butter burritos are the best even better when you put them in the microwave for 10 seconds. just log enough to make the peanut butter start to melt.

a month of injuries

the week is finally coming to an end but not without injury. every week for the past month i have hurt myself one way or another. starting with easter when i crushed my finger, which still looks nasty.

the following week, walking to a club i sprained my ankle walking out of my friends apartment. i still don't know why they would put a step there but when you are half buzzed you REALLY don't see it, lol, and really don't care until the next morning when you don't exactly remember what happened but know that you danced like a fool all night and now it feels like your ankle is broken.

the following week at work 6 of us decide that it would be great to get a 3 on 3 basketball game going at lunch at the nearest park. the first couple of days were great, it was great exercise and we were all having a great time when of course i try to catch a pass and i catch it with the front of my finger jamming the crap out of it. i have jammed my finger numerous times over the years but never has it swelled up so bad and turned purple. my body sure likes that color lately. and of course i can't bend it at all.

this week, somehow i tweaked my back out of whack. by the time i got home from work yesterday i was in so much pain i could barely move. of course by this time my body decides it needs to cough every 10 minutes. when i did this my whole body would seize up and shoot pains in every which direction. i finally had to take some vicodin to get to sleep in which knocked me out cold. so bad that when my alarm went off i turned it off instead of hitting snooze making myself super late to my 630am meeting.

i never thought i would say this but i think i am finally getting old. 31 years doesn't seem that old but it is! i think i am the most active i have been in 8 years and my body does not like it one bit and it has turned me into a clutz.

reverting back

as cool as vista is, its just not quite ready for mainstream use. i have been using vista since it came out but their are just way to many things that don't work the way they should so i am switching back to xp. the biggest reason is copying a file from my computer to my server is slower then a dialup connection where on xp its instantaneous.

to copy a file that is 100mb vista calculates the time it will take and then shows me the speed which is usually 150kbps. 150kbps!!! i have a t-3 connection and its faster for me to upload a file to youtube then it is to upload a file to my server. how much sense does that make?

supposedly their is a hot fix, which i got. it obviously doesn't solve the problem. when you do a search in google a lot of people are experiencing the same problem but nobody has a solution. people say do this or that but none of it seems to work. so until microsoft can fix this, i will stay with my stable xp.

microsoft bob the biggest tech flop

according to computerworld readers, microsoft bob is the biggest tech flop of all time.

its pretty funny when it came out i thought it was exactly what my grandma needed to help her out with using her computer. it was supposed to have a fun and pratical user interface. it had a layout like your house where there was a desk with a calendar on it if you clicked the calendar your calendar program would open if you opened the drawer there was a calculator in which it would launch calc. the type writer opened your word processor and so forth.

according to wikipedia bill gates wife (Melinda French), before she was mrs. gates, lead the project but she left microsoft shortly afterwards.

Bob included various office suite programs such as a finance application, and a funny word processor. The user interface was designed to be helpful to novice computer users, but many saw its methods of assistance as too cute and involved. Each action, such as creating a new text document, featured the step-by-step tutorials no matter how many times the user had been through the process; some users considered this to be condescending. Users were assisted by cartoon characters whose appearance was usually vaguely related to the task.

The teacher said, "There exists a state in which you will not attempt to master the game, and the game will not attempt to master you."

cameron - little league

this is the fist year cameron has played in competive baseball. every year before they have never kept score, the kids all got to play and they played every position. either the coach would pitch or they had a machine. anyways, this year is the first year of "real" baseball. the kids pitch to eachother and it is very competitive.

cameron's team is in first place and cameron has been playing well but the last few games he has struggled at the plate striking out not swinging at the pitches. that all changed last night, his first at bat he struck out but atleast he was swinging at good pitches. his second at bat he hit a pop fly over the first baseman's head and eventually scored. his last at bat came in the last inning where there were two outs and the tying runner on second base. cameron swung on and missed his first pitch. the second pitch he connected for a double driving in the tying score!

the next batter grounded out but the team was able to hold off and the game ended in a tie. cameron was super excited as was his team which i think boosted his confidence. very very exciting. the picture above is of cameron unfortunetly i didn't have my camera so this is a pic of a game from last year.

Virginia Tech

Once again our nation finds itself swimming in tragedy. As everyone knows, yeterday, Cho Seung-Hui opened fire and killed 32 people at Virginia Tech before turning the gun on himself. There are now 33 families whose lives are shattered and who will never know what life had left to offer, and a family left to sit and wonder where their son veered off course and how their name and their baby, the son that they raised and loved, turned into a man who would facilitate the worst killing in modern US history.

This morning as I walked into work I was informed that we had a connection to two of the dead. Jerzy Nowak, head of the agriculture department, and his wife, Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, a french professor, were both killed in the attack. Jerzy was a member of our organization and one of the top volunteers for our charity,The Tree Fund. When tragedy strikes, a personal connection to victims is one thing that magnifies the fear and pain. For me, another thing is this:

Liviu Librescu, 76, engineering science and mathematics lecturer at Virginia Tech was also killed. He blocked the door and yelled to his students to get out. While he succeeded in saving the lives of many of his students, he ultimately perished at the hands of the now-notorious Cho Seung-Hui. Librescu was a Holocaust Survivor.

Times like these I wonder why some are given so much to shoulder, living the Holocaust to die violently at work teaching and saving youth. Thoughts and prayers and greatest sympathy to every person slain or hurt yesterday, everyone who lives in fear now, all the families struggling with their new realities. Those same emotions extend also to the boy who lost all hope and reason and chose this way out, and to his family who will now forever live with his choice.
Cherish life; it can end in a heartbeat.

Happy Birthday Khalil

Yesterday would have been my 1st son's 11th Birthday. Every year I dread the day for months leading up. I cry more, I yell more, and I just can't take things. This year, the symptoms were there, but not really bad until this week, and yesterday I managed to have a pretty normal day. I didn't cry, I didn't lock myself in my room going through his box of stuff: little tiny baby booties, blanket, the going-home outfit he never got to wear. Birth certificate and death certificate. Part of me feels that this little bit of releif came after way too much pain and suffering, but part of me feels so guilty for even the slight reprieve in pain. So for my 2nd child, my 1st son, I love you, and I will never ever forget you. I am only just beginning to learn to remember you and honor your life without hurting inside. Happy Birthday.

friday night we joined the cubscout pack at camp pendelton of all places, yes there is a camp site on the marine base. we got out pitched tent and then went for a hike. you can see all my random comments on my twitter account or on the right hand side of my blog under twitter. pretty funny stuff, lol. we had a good time.

i went to bed early so i could get up and come to work. we built a new room for a servers so we had to shut down everything and get them moved over. after about 8 hours of straight physical work (even with my finger messed up) finally everything was back up and running properly. now i have the task of getting all the wires situated so it doesn't look like a bunch of spagetti, lol

painful

i just went thru one of the most painful experiences of my life. i smashed my finger last weekend went to the doctor on tuesday and said to take antibiotics which i have for the past week but the swelling and subsequent infection got worse. everyday people would freak out so i finally went back to the doctor today. big mistake!

i go to the same doctor as my kids so in a sense i am seeing a pediatrician. they scheduled me for their last appointment so i wouldn't freak out any of the kids with the amount of screaming and blood that was about to come out of me.

first they wiped it down with iodine and alcohol then sprayed something on it that was "supposed" to numb the area, all it did was make it cold. then he took my finger and proceeded to stick a hole in it 20 different times where the infection was. that hurt but was ok. then he squeezed my finger has hard as he could like it was some pimple. the nurse was freaking out... i guess its not everyday the pediatrician gets to perform surgery, lol. well the swelling is gone but i am in much worse pain. it has taken me 20 minutes to type this because i can't use my middle finger at all.

oh well now i get to go camping with the cubscouts at camp pendelton. this prescription of codeine should come in handy.

why

are there so many E's, D's and C's in so many words? im in so much freakin pain its not even funny :( why oh why am i so clumsy? going to the doctor tomorrow where i am sure he will want to drain the blood. im sure its going to hurt like hell too, man, im not happy!, and im not like "most children", lol.

Sometimes blood collects under the nail -- what we call a subungual hematoma. When handled properly, this does not increase or decrease the odds of the nail healing well. If enough blood is trapped to cause painful throbbing, the nail should be evaluated.

Often the physician will pierce the nail to relieve the pressure. The physician might use a red-hot paper clip, an 18-gauge needle, or an electrocautery machine. While the procedure sounds gruesome (and looks dramatic when the blood starts to spurt from the hole), most children feel great relief and no discomfort. The hot tool glides through the nail like butter.

via drgreene.com

update: well i went to the doc yesterday. he didn't relieve any pressure and now its swollen even more and hurting just as bad. what he did do was give me antibotics which has a side effect of DEATH. yes thats right death. wonderful, well atleast my life insurance is paid up.

no i didn't paint my finger nail black. last night i was getting out a pan to hard boil the eggs and somehow all the pans decided fall on my middle finger. at first it was just a little blue but hurt like hell. well 24 hours later it still hurts but my entire nail is filled with blood and throbbing. you have no idea how many times you need to use your middle finger to type. ouch, ouch, OUCH. i think i broke something, im probably going to loose my nail. this just sux bad. going to try to go to the doc tomorrow where he will most likely want to drain the blood from underneath my nail, now that sounds like fun doesn't it?

when we were at target joey used some of his christmas money, yes he has saved it for this long, to buy some toys for himself. one of the things was the mini hoops bball game another was this really cool play-dough setup. he came into the room all excited, "check this out", he said. it was pretty cool, then he turned on the light, awesome!!

today has been a pretty relaxing day. heather and vicky took the dog to her last obedience class where she scored a whopping 76 out of 200, lol. when they got home we all went out to carls jr. for lunch and then went to target to get some poster board for a project vicky needs to do. then we headed to borders to look for a sims guide, yes thats right a SIMS guide. no luck but i did pick a book, mcnally's bluff, a series i have been reading off and on for the past 10 years. after borders we went to fry's where heather found the washer and dryer that we HAVE to have (which by the way are $1300) and then to petco to get some crickets and dog food for the bearded dragon and dog.

we are now home, all laying on the couch. i have read about 50 pages of my book so far, heather of course is playing sims as you can see from the pictures above and the kids are playing on their computer.

heather and vicky are getting ready to go to their basketball end of the year party at zito's pizza, which by the way has the worst pizza EVER. while they are gone i think i am going to take a nap, lol.

here are some other pics from just right now.

for heather - simlish songs

as i have reported many times in the past my wife is addicted to the sims. sims2, simsDS, simLIFE stories, etc... well just for her here are some songs re-recorded in simlish, check em out. if you don't know what simlish is, here is the wikipedia definition:

Simlish is a fictional language featured in Maxis' Sim series of games. It debuted in SimCopter, and has been especially prominent in The Sims and The Sims 2. Simlish can also be heard in SimCity 4, albeit far less frequently. It also featured to an extent in the Firaxis game Sid Meier's SimGolf. Designer Will Wright was conscious of the need for dialogue in the game, but thought that using a real language would make it sound too repetitive.

why feb is the shortest month

slate article

It's the Romans' fault. Our modern calendar is loosely based on their old, confusing one. Though records on the Roman calendar are sparse and sketchy, legend has it that Romulus, the first king of Rome, devised a 10-month lunar calendar that began at the spring equinox in March and ended with December. It is unclear whether there were any official months between December and March, but it's likely they were left off because the wintertime wasn't important for the harvest.

some how i stumbled onto the US geological earthquake website. its actually a really cool site with a ton of information dating back thousands of years. for example did you know that the worlds deadliest earthquake was in 1556, in china and it killed 830,000 people? the second deadliest was just a few years ago that resulted in the devastating tsunami killing 283,106.

after some further searching, i found that they have an RSS feed of the latest earthquakes from around the world. me being the geek that i am did a little programming and now as you can see to the right are the last 8 quakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or greater. pretty cool, huh?

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY JOEY!!!

Well Saturday was his birthday but I have been so incredibely busy I didn't have time to post.

Saturday began with a 9 am soccer tournament for Joey since he was drafted to All Stars. (They won!) After T1 we rushed to pick up the trophies I ordered and grab a bite to eat, then back for T2 (they won again! GO JOEY!) while Chris went to buy snacks for Joey's party, which we rushed to directly after.

Party went well, we had a bounce house and a magician who was very fun. Joey got some very fun gifts and I am ever so thankful to have pulled this party off.

In other news: Took the kids to KIIS fm's Jingle Ball on Thursday, which was an experience but very fun. Performing were Danity Kane, Jo Jo, Vanessa Hudgens, Bow Wow, RBD, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and.... Special Guest... JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!! woo hoo! Everyone had a great time, even though the boys fell asleep. :P

On an entirely different but equally awesome level, Sunday night we went to see Bocelli in concert as well. It was the fist time I had been to a classical concert and I thouroughly enjoyed it.

Sports recaps: Besides the 2 wins for Joeys soccer All Stars tournaments, Vicky's team lost :'( her Saturday night game by a tiny margin (although the ref was blind and biased so they should have won) and Cameron's team won their Sunday game. (Go Ballers!)

and we're back

we are back at home. we actually got home really fast took about 1.5 hours. i figured it would take atleast 3 hours thankfully we left today and not sunday otherwise it would have taken 6 hours fighting all the traffic.

heather is asleep, her back is hurting. i have been fighting with the kids nonstop, my head is hurting(nothing a couple of beers won't cure :]). i don't know what their problem is but they will not leave me alone, not even to go to the bathroom... i'll show them, lol. just wait.

i think i am going to watch elf now. it has been on tbs all week but i keep catching the end of it. its one of my favorites. tomorrow we have to pick up the dog and i think i am going to put up the christmas lights. or i may just lay on the couch all day, i'll let you know tomorrow.

friday night, in big bear

we all just got home, this being our last night we went to the movies. we saw deck the halls. i thought it was a great christmas movie, although its hard to watch anything with matthew broderick without thinking of ferris bueller . the best part is when danny devito sync'd his christmas lights with music using an ipod mixer. good stuff.

we are now back at the cabin watching numb3rs. i am editing all the pictures, cameron and joey are doing magic tricks with a deck of cards, heather is playing nintendo ds (which she has been doing the entire trip, i have lost her... again) and vicky just got back from gramma's cabin. we have the fire going strong, enjoying our last day in the mountains. not looking forward to tomorrow packing and cleaning. back to reality.

thank you mom for a wonderful trip. its been a fabulous week with lots of great memories.

happy thanksgiving everyone! i just got done stuffing my face and i can barely move now. we had all the favorites: mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit salad (yummy yummy), some very scary looking candied yams, ham, bread, butter and of course smoked turkey. next up pie, pie and more pie!

i am thankful for many many things... one, my wife and i have a very strong and successful relationship. we are very connected and i love that. things have never been better between us and everyday it gets better, she is the woman of my dreams. i am thankful for my three wonderful children. that they are very healthy and strong. that they are doing very well in school. i am thankful for my mother and how she keeps us all together, i love you very much mom. i am thankful that things are just going so well right now. i pray that god looks over us and keeps us strong.

well i guess i should go see if there is anything i need to do, like purge myself to get ready for pie. happy thanksgiving everyone, i hope that your day is as great as ours.

today we woke up late got ready and finally headed out to go fishing about 11:30. we must have tangled our lines about 20 times, we scott spent more time untangeling the lines then we scott actually did fishing. none of us weren't patient enough to keep the lines in the water and after 2 hours finally gave up not catching one fish. oh well, it was an experience to say the least.

afterwards we went to the grocery store to buy food for a bbq. chicken, steak, corn, potatoes, salad and some hot dogs. dinner was great, the hot dogs were the best! i am such a great chef. mom made margarita's and pina colada's. afterwards we made cookies and played the new yatzee game where katrina won, heather won but joey was the biggest winner winning three times! cameron, trevor and vicky all slept at gramma's cabin. i slept with joey in his room. when we woke up he said dad they're all liars you don't snore! maybe its a conspiracy.

again we woke up to a cabin full of kids. i snore to much so i have to sleep on the couch :( its so damn hot because the heater is in the living room and my mouth dries out to the point where i can't barely swallow. poor me.

we went shopping today and got old time pictures taken. we did this the last time we were all in big bear together about 6 years ago. we must have been in the "studio" for 3 hours where i had to hear every story our photographer had about clint eastwood and the series bonaza. i think we were the only customer this guy has seen in a long time. it wasn't easy to get 10 people all in costume and for everybody to keep their eyes open. i was the problem twice! bummer. oh well, finally finished. afterwards we went to k-mart to buy fishing poles so scott, the kids and i could all go fishing early in the morning.

Happy 9th Birthday Cameron!

Today is Cameron's 9th birthday, and what a day it was! We started the day with an over excited Cameron waking up at 6:30 this morning. By 8:30 we were on the soccer field, where thanks to the magic of Cameron's birthday we won Cam's game 4-0. Came home, chaged clothes, picked up Mason, wrapped presents. Chris took Cam and Mason to pick up the cake while I took Joey to his friend Dawson's party at Camelot. We got to Cam's party at BrewBakers just in time to hand make our delicious pretzels and brew, kick-mix, and bottle our rootbeer. (And maybe have a few beer beers too). If you have the chance to visit this place, I highly reccomend it. It's very small, but an awesome concept, fun time, and extremely friendly staff. Cam got some awesome gifts and had a great time. Gramma took him to get a motor scooter and to go see Santa Clause 3 with his friend Mason. We got him an iPod video.

All in all, I think my spoiled rotten child had a good birthday.

In other news....

Joey has been placed on the all star team for soccer. YAY Joey!!

Vicky has just returned from her 7th grade trip to Catalina. She appears to have had a wonderful time; kayaking, squid dissecting, snorkeling, hiking, etc. And eating plankton.

And Joey, who sells things at his store like Nerds for $.99, has decided I am for sale, for the fair price of 300,00 million. Any takers?

Next weekend we are off to Big Bear, to celebrate Chris' birthday (19), his sister's (24) and Thanksgiving. Also this month, we celebrate my sister's 25th (12), and my nephew's 15th (15th). wish us luck in this, our time of supreme busyness.

And remember, life is a blessing, even when we are at our whit's end! Live it to the fullest for you never know when it will be taken from us. (OK, I watched Saw I & II)

steve sent me a link this morning, link, that got me thinking back to my childhood. i can't think of a better time than when i was in 4th, 5th and 6th grade. before stupid girls and hormones screwed you all up. life was just great. i can remember playing with lego's for hours and hours building the death star or having wrestle mania with the junk yard dog and andre the giant as the main event.

my favorite toys must have been transformers, you know: transformers, more than meets the eye. transformers, robots in disguise. haha... its weird because my kids are about this age and they aren't into anything like that. they listen to their ipods, play on their computers but none of them sit down and play with action figures or transformers or even lego's. when i try to get them to they get bored with them so easily. it seems like kids now are growing up way faster than i did and it really sucks because thinking back now those were some of the best times ever.

how to survive in a plummenting elevator

thanks will, this is the best part the warnings:

Jumping just before the elevator hits the bottom is not a viable alternative. Just do the math; if the lift is falling at 100mph, (figures are not accurate example of speeds of falling lifts) and you were to jump up, at the exact right moment at a velocity of 5mph, your total downward velocity is 95mph!

failed mcdonalds items

don't ask why i think i was looking up the McPizza but here are some failed McDonald's items:

Hulaburger: A Ray Kroc invention, it featured a slice of pineapple instead of meat. Originally intended for Roman Catholics who were not allowed to eat meat on Fridays. It flopped when it was test-marketed in 1963.

Big Xtra: (U.S. version; for International variants on the Big Xtra, see Big N' Tasty) A three-eighths pound hamburger patty with optional American cheese, served with ketchup, mayonnaise, onions, three pickles, leaf lettuce, and a tomato slice on a sesame seed bun. Discontinued in the 2001 in favor of the Big N' Tasty.

Chili cheeseburger: the standard McDonald's cheeseburger, but with a no-bean chili sauce in place of mustard or ketchup. (2002) Test marketed in southern California.

McDonald's has also attempted pizza at various times, with an apple-pie-like McPizza and more conventional McDonald's Pizza.

i think they need to bring back the hula burger!! here is the whole list.

being the bad guy... again

on my way home from work, on my way to meet my family at my son's school fall festival i get a call from my wife. "do yo know what your son did?", asks my wife... what now!? (earlier, i got a call from heather letting me know that he was at detention for talking to much in class.) both my son's go to the after school daycare that is provided at the school, well this particular day my son decides to leave campus for 15 minutes, which he has never done before. his story, he was asking if he could go home with one of his friends, which he knows he is not allowed to do. his punishment, he doesn't get to go to the festival.

since they were already there heather let him play until i got there, in which i took him home. he swears that he was only gone for 5 minutes in either case he shouldn't have walked outside of the gate for 1 second. now i feel like a horrible person, was the punishment to much? i hate second guessing myself. hopefully he learns to never do this again.
